Big Horn River
Big Horn River Fly Fishing aka “Wedding of the Waters” comes with history and excitement. While most people relate the Big Horn to the famous stretch of water outside of Fort Smith, Montana, Wyoming natives think otherwise. Although we may be biased, we believe our stretch of the Big Horn River gives the Montana stretch a run for its money.
The Bighorn is another famed Blue Ribbon fishery that sits nearest to the town of Thermopolis, Wyoming. Thermopolis is located about two hours North West of Casper. This tailwater fishery is stabilized by the dam and rich in nutrients. These conditions make for a healthy fish population. The Bighorn is a tributary of the Yellowstone River, and is completely separate from the North Platte drainage system. The upper most portion of the Big Horn is called the Wind River. This is the name of the river as it flows through the reservation. Once the river hits Boysen Dam, it is called the Big Horn. The area where the Wind River turns to the Big Horn River is fittingly coined as “The Wedding of the Waters”.
