This pattern is tied on a jig hook and features a mix of black and brown CDC for the hackle. The CDC moves with the slightest bit of current, giving the fly plenty of life without requiring a bunch of extra work from you.

The dubbing collar is swept back to create a pulsating leech-like movement in the water. That action is a big part of what makes this fly so effective. Strip it slowly, let it drift, or give it a little movement and let the fly do the rest.
