After Fire on the Beach, I began working on non-fiction essays. I published "Crazy White Boy" in the Missouri Review in 2008. Since then I have had some luck placing memoir and outdoors-related essays in Gray's Sporting Journal, The Flyfish Journal, Fish Alaska, Ninth Letter, The Sun and others. In 2015, I won the acclaimed Jeffery E. Smith editor's award from The Missouri Review.
